After 505 Games decided to pull the plug on Portal Knights—arguably Keen Games’s breakout title at the time—the Frankfurt studio decided to cut their losses and go at it alone with their next project. Released in Early Access in 2024, open-world survival game Enshrouded was not just the culmination of everything the developer had learned so far, but also a sensational success in a genre crowded with the likes of Minecraft, Valheim, Subnautica, and more. More than two years and 3M copies later, Enshrouded is gearing up for a big 1.0 release this October, a release which will bring numerous quality-of-life improvements and mark the game’s debut on PlayStation 5.
