Fan-made game based on Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie has PS1 graphics, fixed camera angles, and looks awesome

In the latest iteration of “this fan project looks awesome so I’m sure it will be shut down soon,” one TikToker is turning back the clock to Resident Evil’s fixed camera heyday. Tentatively titled Resident Evil: The Movie: The Game, progress has happened rapidly over the past few days, with the latest update from creator @notreallyjulian (who also goes by the name nocturne) teasing wounded animations and voice acting based on a scene early on in Zach Cregger’s critically acclaimed movie. https://www.tiktok.com/player/v1/7697526074170690830?embed_from=oembed&music_info=1&description=1&autoplay=1&muted=1 https://embeds.beehiiv.com/a8d62108-86ed-4039-bf49-44877ba62c15 The fan project quickly took shape over the past week or so, with the creator modeling main character Brian (played in the film by Austin Abrams) during the opening moments of the film as he encounters a zombie dog in a barn. It’s a big work-in-progress, obviously, as Bryan currently has the face of an old Chris Redfield model, but it’s still pretty fun to see. This early prototype already looks quite awesome so far, but given that it’s using licensed IP, it would not shock me to see either Sony (which distributed the movie) or Capcom (Resident Evil games publisher) step in with some legal power eventually to shut it down if it gets too big. That’s usually how these stories go, unfortunately. For now, though, it’s a fun story showcasing some fan ingenuity, and I’ll be following along to see how it goes. The movie has some fun and even funny moments that would be great to see brought to life in this fashion, harkening back to the franchise’s beginnings on the PS1. And although I deeply enjoy where the franchise has gone, I would never be against a throwback such as this (are you listening, Capcom?). Good luck to you, nocturne, and keep up the great work. If you could work in some of Brian’s funny moments on top of the PS1-era accuracy, that would be swell.
