Game Modes | Hell Let Loose: Vietnam

What Game Modes are in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam?

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam launches today, which means it’s almost time to experience the battlefields of Vietnam for yourself!

Before you deploy, we’re breaking down the different game modes you’ll encounter, how they work, and what you and your team will need to do to secure victory.

First, here are a few key terms that will be useful to know:

  • Hard Cap: The designated circle marked directly on the map around a capture point within a sector.

  • Soft Cap: The four grid squares (2x2 area) surrounding the objective.

  • Sector: A 2x8 section of the map that contains one of the five capture points.

Warfare

Warfare is the iconic game mode that defines Hell Let Loose. It’s a tug-of-war battle for territory, with both teams beginning the match in control of their respective halves of the map whilst the middle sector starts neutral.

The start of a Warfare match on Quảng Ngãi. The central capture point begins neutral.

Throughout the match, your objective is to push the enemy back by capturing and securing each contested sector. Gain enough ground and you’ll eventually be fighting to capture the enemy’s Headquarters (HQ) sector and secure victory.

However, you don’t necessarily need to reach the enemy HQ to win. If the match reaches the time limit, the team controlling the majority of sectors will be crowned the winner.

Positioning also plays an important role when capturing a sector. Players within the Soft Cap contribute one-manpower toward their team’s capturing power, while players fighting directly within the Hard Cap contribute three times the capturing power. A ‘clean’ capture with no contention will take 3 minutes.

This means controlling the objective itself can give your team a significant advantage when both sides are fighting over the same sector.

Win Conditions

To win a Warfare match, your team must achieve one of the following:

  • Capture the enemy HQ sector.

  • Control the majority of sectors when the match time limit expires. A game last up to 90 minutes, which is the same for all modes except for Offensive.

Offensive

Offensive changes up the Warfare formula and creates a game of attack vs defence.

In this mode, one team gets put on the attack, whilst the other is on the defence, with the frontline moving across the battlefield as sectors are captured.

The attacking team’s objective is to capture all five points, eventually pushing into the defending team’s HQ sector. Attackers have 30 minutes to capture each active sector, while the defending team must do everything they can to hold the frontline.

The start of an Offensive match on Cam Ranh Port from the attackers perspective. Only 1 capture point is active at the start for the attacker. They have a 30 minute countdown to capture the point.

Meanwhile, the defending team will be able to see all 5 points at the start, and can set up defences at later capture points to stop the attackers push forward.

If the attackers successfully capture a sector, the defenders must fall back to the next objective and establish a new defensive line. The match timer then resets to 30 minutes, giving the attackers another opportunity to continue their advance.

However, if the defenders successfully hold any active sector until the 30-minute timer expires, they win the match. Once a sector has been lost, it cannot be recaptured by the defending team.

Unlike Warfare, only players fighting within the Hard Cap contribute toward capturing the objective, making control of the capture point itself essential for both teams.

Win Conditions

There are two possible outcomes in a game of Offensive:

  • Attackers: Capture all five points and secure the enemy HQ sector.

  • Defenders: Hold any active sector until the 30-minute timer expires.

Conquest

Conquest offers a different style of battle that Warfare and Offensive, giving both teams the freedom to fight over multiple capture points across the map rather than following a set frontline.

Conquest map layout on Vạn Tường.

Capture points are arranged in a cross-shaped layout, with teams free to attack and capture them in any order. This creates a more dynamic battlefield where you’ll need to decide whether to reinforce territory already under your control or shift your attention elsewhere to put pressure on the enemy.

However, territory isn’t the only thing you’ll need to keep an eye on.

Introducing ‘Morale’

Each team begins with a finite amount of Morale, which is depleted whenever players redeploy onto the battlefield. Morale will also gradually bleed depending on which team currently controls the majority of capture points.

This means every deployment matters. Your team will need to balance fighting for control of the map with preserving enough Morale to stay in the battle.

If a team runs out of Morale while the opposing team controls the majority of capture points, the match ends and the opposing team wins.

However, if the team controlling the majority of capture points is the first to run out of Morale, the battle enters Overtime.

Win Conditions
  • Control the majority of capture points when the opposing team runs out of Morale.

Overtime Conditions

If the team controlling the majority of capture points runs out of Morale first, the match enters Overtime.

The team with Morale remaining must capture the majority of capture points before exhausting their own Morale. If they fail to do so, the opposing team wins the battle.

Domination

In Domination, the goal is to capture the opponent’s HQ. However, unlike in Warfare, to unlock the opposing HQ, you must first take control of the majority of the three central capture points. This set-up creates two distinct phases of play.

Start of a Domination game on Đắk Tô Airfield. The two HQs are locked at the start, with the three central capture points available to capture.

At the beginning of the match both teams fight for control over three capture points, located in the three central sectors. These capture points can be captured in any order. Once your team controls the majority (two of three), the opposing team’s HQ becomes available to capture, marking the second phase of the battle.

Push into enemy territory and successfully capture their HQ to immediately secure victory.
Do note, that the HQ will become locked again if you lose the majority of the central capture points whilst trying to capture the HQ.

If neither team captures the opposing HQ before the match timer expires, the team controlling the majority of capture points when time runs out wins the battle.

As with in Warfare, players within the Soft Cap contribute one-manpower toward capturing an objective, while players fighting directly within the Hard Cap contribute three times the capturing power.

Win Conditions
  • Capture the opposing team’s HQ.

  • Control the majority of capture points when the match timer expires.
