Desperate GTA fans are using ChatGPT to generate fake, AI slop GTA 6 screenshots
It's sometimes hard to believe it's real, but yesterday was the seven-month mark until the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. We are in the home stretch, folks. We are likely mere days or weeks away from the start of the marketing blitz for GTA 6. Soon, there will be a trailer, screenshots, gameplay, hands-on impressions, and more for all of us to sink our teeth into. And that's why I'm all the more annoyed at something I saw online today. Image via Rockstar Games Some very bored GTA fans have taken it upon themselves to use ChatGPT to generate fake gameplay screenshots of the upcoming impossibly highly anticipated sequel. Some of it looks assumedly accurate to what the game may actually look like, and in that regard, I understand the appeal to an extent. But please, knock it off. ChatGPT simply uses existing footage and screenshots to create what may or may not look like the real thing. I think I'd rather just see the real thing when it happens, because if it doesn't look like this, then you've just created unrealistic expectations while also contributing to the generative AI epidemic. Look, I get it. The wait for GTA 6 has been excruciating. But using an AI chatbot to create a screenshot for something that's finally nearly here is just nauseating, and that's without even getting into the ethics of generative AI. Typing a prompt into ChatGPT to have it use real imagery to make what you want GTA 6 to look like, at this point in the game, is embarrassing. The number of people ooh-ing and aah-ing at the fake screenshot in a Reddit thread is really discouraging, especially considering the tenuous nature of GTA 6's development and the myriad of leaks that have accompanied it. We've made it this far without new info. Please don't use this slop generator to continue to slap Rockstar developers in the face as they're likely already busting their asses trying to get the game out the door on Nov. 19.
